The three learnings I have learned from this program are:

1. To appreciate the uniqueness and diversity within everyone. We were all put on earth for a specific reason (some known and some unknown), and we were not created to be the same. We were created to be an individual, have our own opinions and we as people must respect that.

2. To stay focused on the main goal. A lot of the times through out the course I often wondered what was my specific passion/interest when it related to Early Childhood Education. As I continued through out the course, I later learned that I wanted to focus or learn more about emotional/social development in early childhood students.

3. To plan. This program has taught me how to plan ahead for assignments. When dealing with technology and even life things happen and you have to make sure you have your assignment (work) completed by within a certain time frame.

My long term goal is to continue to educate myself about different methods of reaching students (Early childhood, elementary and even adolescents) emotionally, socially and academically.

Again it has been such an honor and pleasure with working each and every last one of you all. My professors were truly amazing! They gave me wonder feedback, they not only helped me as a student but it helped me grow more as a professional. My classmates were also amazing, for bring up ideas, concepts or topics that never crossed my mind. They also provided wonderful feed back, support and valuable information. You guys are the best!!!!

NEA (National Educational Association), I chose this association because I like how the association focuses on the advancement of children. I decided to look into the Child Development Instructor position. I selected this job because I figured I would still be in the classroom but instead of teaching children I will be teaching adults. Helping them learn how to teach children and explore options under the early childhood umbrella. The requirements for this job are:

I chose this association because I like how they are dedicated to the very beginning of the foundation. I like how to they have podcasts to help parents and even teachers help cope with certain things that are (major) issues during this period. Such as an excessive crying baby, or a child who is hard to put to sleep. I also like how this is a non profit organization that focuses on helping early childhood professionals, educators and even parents.

Adjourning…The Bittersweet Stage!

“The “adjourning” stage the project is coming to an end and the team members are moving off into different directions.” (Abudi)

While reading the definition of adjourning, I thought about my cohort group that I was in when I was working on my first masters. We took just about if not all of our classes together. It was awesome! Some of us worked together in groups to do presentations, while others worked together in a group to do research. Thinking back on my cohort, our adjourning stage happened when we graduated and everyone went their own way. For me it was a bittersweet moment, I was happy to graduate with my masters but I was sad to see my friends leave.

I think adjourning is an essential stage of teamwork because in a sense reality sinks in and you then realizes that you might not see any of your classmates or colleagues after you finish this project. Leaving or the end of something is always sad or bittersweet.

Adjourning from the group of colleagues with this masters will not be as hard as adjourning from the colleagues from my first masters. The difference between the two groups were the amount go time that we spent together. The cohort group that I was apart of while I was working on my first masters, we saw each other two to three times a week, for almost two years. The online cohort is different because we change colleagues from class to class and we are not seeing each other two to three times a week. Even thought we “chat” with each other at least two to three times a week, the bond is still different when you actually see someone versus chatting with someone from time to time online.

Opening the lines of Communication

A current disagreement that I have recently experienced occurred between a co-worker and I. My co-worker and I were not seeing eye to eye about the shared responsibility with our students.

 

We decided to talk about what was wrong and what needed to change so the other person would not feel as if she was doing more than the other one.

 

We decided to look at things from the other person’s point of view, we also decided to be positive, open minded about the situation and remember to keep the main goal in mind, which is to educate our students.

Learning About Myself

The one communication evaluation that surprised me the most is that I was considered a moderate on the communication anxiety inventory. I would have placed myself in the high level. I ALWAYS get nervous when I have to speak in front of a large group, or even a small group. I can speak in a small group without being nervous if I am familiar with the people in the small group. If they are strangers, I will have a hard time speaking. Now when it comes to one on one conversation, I can talk the listeners ear off. J This was a very interesting quiz and I am glad that I took it. I have learned that I am not as socially awkward as I thought I was.

I have also learned that my self-concept is not where I thought it was. Taking this quiz has helped me realized that I am not as harsh as I thought I was. I am concerned but yet stern when I correct my students. Sometimes it appears that I am being mean but I am not, I only want the best for my students and I have to correct them if they are doing wrong.
